App not showing in App Store search? Start here

A step-by-step checklist for separating availability problems from keyword ranking issues.

First, distinguish availability from ranking

An app that does not appear for a broad keyword may still be available and searchable by name. Check the direct App Store link in the intended country, then search the exact app name. If the direct link fails, investigate distribution and availability before rewriting keywords.

Search results vary by storefront and can change over time. A missing result in one query or tool is not proof that Apple has removed the app or that its metadata has been rejected.

Check status, territories, and device compatibility

In App Store Connect, inspect the app and version status. If the app has not been approved and released, or its release is pending, customers may not be able to find it yet. Review the app’s availability for the affected country and the intended platform. Apple explains distribution and states in its availability documentation.

Also check whether the device, OS version, age restrictions, and account storefront are appropriate for the app. Ask the affected person for the country and device rather than assuming every customer sees the same catalog.

Search the app name and a relevant phrase

Search the exact name first. Then try a specific phrase matching a feature your app actually provides. Broad searches may contain many competing apps, and not appearing near the top does not mean your app cannot be discovered.

Inspect the apps returned for the phrase. If they solve a different problem, refine your candidate keywords and your listing’s wording. Apple describes how metadata and customer signals relate to App Store search, but does not publish a guaranteed ranking formula.

Record what you checked before changing everything

Keep the date, storefront, exact query, app version, and what you observed. After a release or metadata change, check again over multiple observations rather than making another edit immediately. Apple does not promise a universal indexing time, so avoid treating an arbitrary waiting period as a guarantee.

If the direct listing remains unavailable despite the correct release and territory settings, use Apple Developer Support. For a visible app that is simply hard to find for a keyword, ASO Engine’s rank tracker can help you establish a baseline. See the ranking guide for interpreting observations.
